Saints, can I get real up on here? I am so tired of hearing “God knows the desires of my heart and therefore He will give it to me!”
The Bible doesn’t say “God will give you the desires of your heart”. what it actually says is
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart”. – Psalm 37:4
When you delight yourself in Him; you will desire what He wants.
Therefore, I know that my God gives me what I NEED not what I want – He gives me His will because that is what He knows that I need. He knows that is what I will need to complete my purpose and assignment here on this earth.
We will always have our own desires, and sometimes they are often placed from outside influences or by the spirit of comparison. A lot of times the desires that God places on our heart are drowned out by what we see. We lose our faith and seek our own fleshy desires.
But what does the Holy Spirit desire?
We must be careful that our desires never override the desires of our Father above. He is ultimately in control. He knows the plans He has for us (Jer. 29:11)
Philippians 4:19 says “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
God will provide because He knows exactly what we need.
A lot of times our wants aren’t what is actually the best for us.
Trust me, we allow God to provide what we NEED… His needs Ephesians 3:20 comes to live!
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” – Ephesians 3:20
To be honest, I do this at times – when I get impatient, wanting my own way but as we leave the infant stage of our relationship with Christ and mature from the milk to the meat – God’s desire is what ultimately matters. When we follow our own desires, we walk in spiritual disobedience. Its not that our desires are bad – but God’s timing is everything because we should be truly seeking Him first and His kingdom.
More of Him, less of us. His will be done – NOT OURS. He is in control. Let go of your desires and seek His!
Matthew 6:33 says: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
What desires have you placed above God? Do they align with His word? Do they align His timing? Where did the desires come from?
Who do you serve: your flesh or the Holy Spirit?
These are questions I ask myself on a regular basis for a heart check and my accountability village keeps me in check. I encourage you to lay your own desires down and to take up His!
lots of love,
The Graced Citizen
